Story
Having done a few half-marathons in my life, the thought of completing another circuit was fairly incomprehensible and to be frank, it still is really. But last year, I was at the marathon and I thought it was an event I wanted to take part in and a feat of achievement that I may not experience at another time in life - I entered absent mindedly and suddenly I find myself lining up for a 20-miler this Sunday at 8am...that is just the warm-up.
So why CoppaFeel (www.coppafeel.org) ? A couple of reasons jump out, apart from the obviously fantastic work that they do. Firstly, a friend of mine had breast cancer and thankfully has beaten it, but the experience is life altering even though she feels very luck to have survived. Sadly, I know of others who have not been so lucky and the impact of this disease can be devastating...too many people are dying too young. The way she has dealt with it and now pushes on is hugely inspirational and she has aligned herself to the superb CoppaFeel and its amazing founder, Kris Hallenga (you may have seen the docu: "Dying to Live"). Both their courage and unwillingness to be defeated makes the marathon look like a skip across the clouds and so feels like an almost inadequate gesture of support, but charities like CoppaFeel need the money to continue the awesome work, so plod away I shall. Secondly, I work in a sector that is youth focused and seeing other charities struggle to make a connection (and subsequently educate) with this massive audience (2.5m students at HE level) needs to be addressed. CoppaFeel is fun, energetic, is something that the yoots can really get into and makes a massive impact. It will make a huge difference by engaging the next generation of adults, at a time that is so crucial in their development.
So, if you fancy sponsoring this tit, please give generously (or whatever you can actually).
A massive THANK YOU and if you know of any good running tunes for the marathon playlist, stick them in the comments section with the donation.
