<p><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Harvey John Collins was born prematurely on 14 June 2011 A much-celebrated moment. His quick arrival and born with his hand held along side his face caused the shape of his head to flatten on one side.</span></span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">He held his head in one position for comfort and quickly the muscles in his neck shortened (torticollis) causing him pain and discomfort to move it to the other side.</span></strong></span></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Despite doctors having repeatedly telling his mum Harriet that his head shape would right itself with growth, Harvey was recently diagnosed with severe plagiocephaly. Harriet, was told that the condition was so severe that his eye , ear and forehead had bulged and eventually he may dislocate his jaw as it grows. At least he faces years of dentistry to correct his bite and bullying for his deformity. </span></span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">The only treatment that would offer any significant improvement to the shape of Harvey's head would be a </span></strong><span class="caps"><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">STAR</span></span><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">band cranial remolding orthoses helmet. These are <span style="text-decoration: underline;">not </span>available on the NHS. The NHS views this condition as cosmetic. </span></strong></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">As Harvey's family we only want the best for him and are trying to raise the funds for him to have this treatment. Harvey will need to wear a special helmet for 23 hours of the day for up to a year. Alongside weekly physiotherapy he will also have to attend fortnightly visits to the Ahead4babies Clinic in London.</span></strong></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">After the lengthy treatment Harvey will have a much improved shape to his head. This condition is treatable, although we are late in treating as most babies are treated at 4-5 months Harvey is now 9 months it is not too late as the skull slows down at 12 months. </span></strong></span></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Please, please, please help us to raise money for Harvey's helmet and the charity that supports families and children with this condition by making a donation.</span></span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">We will also be organizing fundraising activities</span></strong><strong><span style="font-weight: normal; color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;"> </span></strong><strong><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">to</span></strong><strong><span style="font-weight: normal; color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;"> </span></strong><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: black; mso-ansi-language: EN;">raise awareness of the condition and also raise money for the charity to enable them to provide financial assistance to other families.</span></strong></span></span></p>
