Story

Hair Today... Gone tomorrow...

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For the past 13 years I have walked a wonderful and blessed journey with the locks upon my head. On Dec 31st, I'm getting ready to begin a new chapter without them and would love to start by making a positive difference to the lives of some of our most vulnerable. With your help, I am hoping to use this opportunity to raise money and awareness for a Charity called ‘Swaziland Schools Project’.

My wife grew up in Swaziland in Southern Africa.  It is a beautiful country but Swaziland faces some serious challenges.  There are 200,000 orphans living in Swaziland, a 42% HIV/AIDS infection rate and 15,000 orphan headed households.  It is forecast that in Swaziland, unless something is done to stop the tidal wave that is HIV/AIDS affecting the country, that there will be no living adults by 2020.  Life expectancy is currently 29 years.

Many feel the best way to begin dealing with the problems facing the country is through a four pronged approach of tackling hunger, orphans, poverty and education. Swaziland Schools Project is a charity that aims to advance the education of the children and adults of Swaziland. It does this by:

  • Paying bursaries (fees) so that children can attend school
  • Building classrooms, toilet blocks, kitchens, life skills units, teacher's housing, agricultural units and providing water supplies at schools
  • Providing food and equipment in schools such as books, computers, sewing machines and sewing materials.

About the charity

We raise money to fund bursaries to pay school fees (which every child has to pay in Swaziland) and to improve school facilities, in areas of unemployment and poverty, by building kitchens, classrooms, toilets etc. Our target for 2014-15 is £8,000 for bursaries and £10,000 for building projects.
