We set up sustainable schools in Africa to improve access to quality education

Story

Why a Marathon:

For the challenge, and to test my boundaries.

I do not consider myself a runner. Back in my childhood, I hated running. Deep in my head, I probably still do. I can cycle for hours, swim across a lake, maybe even stand on 1 leg with a book balanced on my head for 24 hours. But after running 5km, i'd collapse in a sweaty heap.

As I always say, life begins at the end of one's comfort zone and this is a challenge for me. It will test my limits, challenge my stamina and my grit.  It will take confidence and dedication to push through.

Why Berlin:

To be honest, a main factor is that Berlin the flatest major marathon course in the world, and because unlike London, the training takes place in the summer months.

But moreover, Berlin is a city full of history, a place where not only east and west meet, but also the past and the future -- it's a city of historical change and reinvention. It is going to be amazing when I cross the finish line (i.e. slowly hobble through the finish line) at the Branderburg Gate, formerly part of the Berlin wall, now a symbol of peace and unity.

Why this Charity:

PEAS supports secondary education in Sub-saharan Africa. I have been priveleged to have access to education all my life, and sometimes we forget that this is not the case for every child in this world. I strongly believe that education can make our world better.
