Story
Hopelessly unfit, over weight and over 50, never having done any thing sponsored in my life, I have been suckered into biking 1000 miles the UK and States in August 2016.
Support my bottom in this endeavor, only with your help do I have any chance of achieving this goal. The picture will show it has not been an altogether auspicious start to the world of cycling, but I am hoping that in time we will be able to post a slightly more favourable shot!
Starting in Holt, I will bike to Quidenham, Norfolk, Ipswich, Suffolk and onto Milton, Cambridge to visit each of the Hospices before going on to Heathrow. Supposing that I survive that experience, I then fly to Boston and drive to Niagra Falls. Here I meet up with George Broughton, who is hoping to bike from the West Coast to the East coast an adventure lasting over 8 weeks and over 6000 miles - he is, however, 33 years younger and very fit.
I will join him for Stage 7 & 8 of Cycle America which is 850 miles finally arriving on one wheel and with no bum at Boston on the 21st August. It will take 14 days of up to 90 miles a day. Imagine my joy - they have arranged that the first day should be all up hill! Bless them!
Its an accompanied ride - so they move my kit from place to place and help with logistics. They sweetly suggest that I might like to sleep in a tent! Not really my drop, so I have enlisted the help of Maggie Heath, who is my back stop and will be driving while I bike. She deserves her own Just Giving page!
Most of you will know that I have been a Patron of EACH for over 25 years and am passionate about the work they do and the families they help. Their work is extraordinary and only due to your generosity do Hospice groups such as EACH survive. With less than 25% Government funding, they make it possible for children who are life limited and their families to maximise the children and families quality of life. Their hospices are a place of light and joy. When necessary they offer bereavement care and sibling support for all the family.
