As some of you may know, I am working at Rock UK and will be for the next 2 years. I'm currently almost 2 weeks into my 3 months of intense training and coaching to prepare and qualify me for working in the outdoors, as well as growing through discipleship to deliver sessions set apart from other outdoor centres through God's love to young people who will visit the centre. I am so excited to share God’s love for those I will meet and engage with at Whithaugh; hoping for growth in their knowledge of God as well as developing my own relationship with my Father.
Rock UK are a Christian organisation who are "Christians passionate about developing young people, bringing adventure into learning and using the outdoors to transform lives." (www.rockuk.org). They run four activity centres around the UK, I am based Whithaugh Park, the adventure centre in the Scottish Borders and I will stay here for the full 2 years of the programme, working and training 'on the job' as a full time instructor.
There are fourteen people on the Instructor Training Programme in total, we all live on site in 3 lodges, and cook and eat dinner together every evening. A week consists of 3 activity days, 2 classroom days and an optional Saturday trip. On activity days we do things such as canoeing, kayaking, climbing, and ropes training. On classroom days, we will be working on our personal spiritual development, this week we have been working through discipleship, and will continue to cover teaching in stewardship, worship and how to work with and understand kids/teenagers.
Everything we do is already paid for (including accommodation) so we're asked to raise a minimum of £3,000 each year, which is £250 per month, this is so we can give back to Rock UK for their training and teaching including the extra optional Saturday trips.
