Story
Hi!
Emma and James are partaking in the London Marathon on the 24th April 2016, running for Wheelpower. It will be James' first marathon and Emma's second. We are raising £2000 each and thought it would be easier to have a joint page rather than separate ones.
WheelPower are dedicated to providing opportunities for disabled people to find a sport they enjoy and provide opportunities throughout the year to introduce people to wheelchair sport. In the last 12 months 45,000 disabled people have played sport at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. The amount people coming for all around the country to train for the GB team, attend a sports camp, or participate in a disability sport at the famous venue recognised as the birthplace of the Paralympic movement has increased by 17%.
Sport can develop confidence and improve fitness but it’s also a great wayto have fun and make friends. There are tremendous physical and psychological benefits, whatever your age or ability and that’s why more and more people are joining our sport events. With sports events in London, Birmingham, Glasgow and an advisor programme at some of the Spinal Injury Centre’s around the country WheelPower have been able to help even more people. Their work has contributed to a rise in the number of disabled people playing sport in recent years. Currently 17.2% of disabled people play sport once a week, a rise of 224,700 over the last nine years.
Please help to support this great charity and help to encourage disabled people to take up sport!
