Last year I started a petition to welcome refugees to the UK which more than 450,000 wonderful people signed. I, like many others, felt hopeful then that our country would do more to help the people who have been forced to leave their homes and risk their lives in order to flee war and persecution. Sadly, a year on, things are worse.

It's estimated that more than 7,000 people are living at Calais and there are at least 800 unaccompanied children living in dire and unsafe conditions. 178 of the children have a legal right to come to the UK because of close family links. Another 209 children are eligible to come to the UK under the Dubs Amendment. The camp is due to be evicted and these vulnerable children are very much in danger.

Safe Passage UK (http://safepassage.org.uk/) are doing some amazing work. Please donate whatever little you can to support Safe Passage and save a child. Anything at all would help.

I frequently think about the children that I met at Calais who regularly risked their lives attempting to get to the UK. I think of the thick mud, the damp tents and the terrible conditions that they have had to endure and still do. The situation is now very urgent due to the next planned eviction. 100 children went missing the last time this happened. Please donate anything that you can and share this far and wide to save at least one child.
