Story
A year ago I finally took the step from vegetarianism to veganism and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
I took up running after feeling embarrassed that my dad can run 6k in 26mins and I couldn't even run for 5 minutes without feeling burst. A few months after going vegan I managed to achieve running a 5k distance, soon after 10k (and my first race), and in August I ran my first half marathon! A vegan diet really helped me to recover well from the exercise along with other health benefits (losing weight, clearer skin, feeling positive).
I have decided to take part in the full marathon after feeling inspired by a number of vegan runners I have read about and some who I've met in person. I feel like I have to prove to myself and others that I can push myself to my limit on a plant based diet (and hopefully thrive when my training mileage increases)!
Veganism is an important part of our future, and it's definitely getting a lot of good press in the recent months. As I work in the health food industry, I've noticed a lot of younger people getting fully onboard with a vegan lifestyle and have met many people who have been vegan 20 years plus! I cannot see how we can sustain the way we are using the planet, along with the detrimental effects processed animal products have on our health.
Please sponsor my marathon so The Vegan Society can continue to educate the world about veganism and all the good it can do for your health, the planet and the future.
