We provide fun activities for young carers to allow them time to be care-free

Story

I am raising money for My Time For Young Carers as I know what an incredible job the charity does do and what wonderful support they offer to the children and families involved.

Young carers are children and young people who provide care, assistance and support to another family member. Often, young people carry out substantial or significant caring tasks on a regular basis and assume a level of responsibility usually associated with an adult.
The person receiving care is often a parent, but can be a brother or sister, grandparent or other relative who is disabled or suffering from physical or mental ill health.
There are many family situations that can have a negative impact on the lives of young people. My Time believe that any child becomes a carer when they are put in a situation in which they feel the need to protect or support another member of their family.

The project was set up in 2012 to provide fun activities for young carers aged between 8 and 12 who live in and around Epsom and Ewell and Mole Valley (and has since grown to offer support to 12 t 16 year olds as well).
Club sessions in Ewell, Dorking and Fetcham and school holiday activities give young people a break from their caring responsibilities and a chance to meet other young people who have similar home lives.
My Time have a large band of volunteers who provide transport to and from club sessions and outings, help with activities and run the snack bar. They also support the professional youth workers that run the club sessions.
To so many young people, caring is ‘Just a way of life’, but at my time they believe that it is a way of life that deserves a few breaks.
Membership of my time and participation in activities is FREE!

Having had health issues, I understand what an enormous impact that can have on the family as a whole and how important it is for everyone to have space and time to themselves, away from the issues of everyday life.

The money raised would go directly towards helping run My Time For Young Carers, for example, £35 pays for a dedicated session worker to plan a club night or £100 would help towards an awesome day out for the amazing young carers.

Please help support My Time For Young Carers by donating now – thank you!

About the charity

My Time offers respite activities and support for young people in Surrey and the surrounding areas whose lives are adversely affected by the disability or ill health of family members. We also support young people who have added caring responsibilities because their families are in a time of crisis.
