Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Thursday June 7, I will be setting off from the original site of Kent College on Bouverie Rd in Folkestone, to walk the 55 miles back to the school’s current site in Pembury. I intend to take 5 days (the equivalent of the girls’ sponsored walk on each day), arriving back on Monday 11 June to greet the pupils back from their half term holiday.
The idea of doing something linking Folkestone to Pembury was inspired by the school’s 125 birthday. There are so many spiritual and personal links between the school community in 1886 and those of us who form KC now, that walking the literal links between us seemed a logical idea.
In recent weeks I have been especially motivated by the group of girls who visited KC Nepal over the Easter holidays. Not only did they endure real hardship and physical challenges, far in excess of anything I will face, but they have also spoken with such warmth and feeling about their work at KC Nepal, the difference we are making to the lives of young people out there, and of the very real way in which pupils in Nepal regard themselves as part of Kent College. We are all one school.
Therefore, I am hoping to raise money for our continued work in Nepal and, as Head, as a means of showing both our personal and practical commitment to their future. This will be an experience both connected to the school’s past, starting in Folkestone but, by raising money for Nepal, very much looking to our future and the future of young people in our own community and across the world. I do hope that parents, colleagues and friends will be feel able to sponsor me in this endeavour and am extremely grateful for their support in this and in all we do.
