Story

For ten years, until 4 years ago, I completed the   Great North Run, using it as a focus for the summer's training and an opportunity to raise some charity cash.

In 2012 a lifetime of running and genetic weakness caught up with me and took away from me the simple pleasure of going out for a run.  It was something I hadn't fully appreciated until it was taken away.

Last year, however, the miracles of modern medicine came to my rescue and here I am again preparing to run the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields again

I am more of a C-3PO than a six million dollar man (forgive the 70's references) so it may not now be an annual event for me but I wanted so much just to take part in the event one more time.

I'm raising money for our company 7digital's chosen charity, Youth Music Network which means every pound you give will be matched by 7digital.   It is a national charity dedicated to radio and music-related projects specifically for young disadvantaged people. The aid has supported numerous organisations, granting them access to key resources and thus opening up opportunities for young people and enriching their lives through performance..

Youth Music funding has helped the successful youth-led radio station Reprezent FM  - home to grime star Stormzy and breakthrough talent Nadia Rose - to expand and flourish. It has enabled the Raw Sounds programme to take individuals suffering from mental health problems to a their first music festival, something they would never have imagined possible. It is a fantastic means of giving young people access to "life-changing musical experiences".
