Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At the moment there are hundreds young of male horses and ponies waiting to be euthanised because of their gender, there is a huge equine welfare crisis happening and sadly many male foals are born with little hope of being wanted and leading a normal, happy existence. All through no fault of their own they are just born male!

Because there are so many colts and not enough good homes willing to take them on they are regularly abandoned and unwanted. Inevitably this leads to many being put to sleep as there is simply nowhere for them to go.  Those that do grow up to become stallions can often face a bleak future of being isolated from other horses and if not handled by an experienced owner from a young age they can become dangerous, leading to them being passed around until they also are abandoned.

Hope Pastures so far in 2015 alone have been asked to admit over 30 colts and stallions, of these Hope Pastures have been able to admit 4 thanks only to our generous supporters who have literally saved lives by donating to individual castration appeals.

Four is amazing for those individuals but frustratingly, because of the cost of gelding Hope Pastures can't take in many colts. The cost would potentially be so much that it could push them as a small local charity over the edge. Even more frustratingly there is at the moment empty stables ready and waiting to give these babies the chance they need.

I am starting this appeal in the hope that we can raise enough funds to at least admit one or two colts who are on the wait list. If Hope Pastures can't take them they will be lose their young lives and although that is so wrong as they deserve to live, there is often no other option.

The cost of gelding an yearling colt of average size is between £150-£200.

A Rig , full stallion or Donkey castration is between £400-£1,000!

Hope Pastures has spent in the region of £10,000 in the past 5 years on castration and this has meant that 32 male ponies, horses and donkeys have been given their second chances , most of these are now in loving loan homes, are enjoying their lives and are loved and cared for for the rest of their days. These include Banjo and Coco the donkeys, Asher, Nemo, Albert, Finn, Cracker and Red to name a few! All of these ponies are proof that if we all put together then we can save lives :)

Please donate even if its just a few pounds. Thanks for reading.
