Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have recently been sporting silly hats and scarves due to hair loss from chemotherapy. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2014 (and I am still in disbelief that it happened to me). I am asking you to join me and put a 'Hat on for Hope' for cancer research - and by posting a picture of you and your family, dog, horse, cat or hamster wearing hats (silly, glamorous or ridiculous) on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sorrelhatsforhope (or via twitter) and contributing a small donation you will be helping cancer research and making me smile! If you do not want to post a picture you can just donate - however small or large amount - every pound, euro or dollar counts.
I had surgery in June which went well and I have just started chemotherapy which is grim. The whole experience has been hard but it has been made easier by the overwhelming support I have received from the medical profession and from family, friends and work colleagues.
In order for some good to come out of this horrible experience I would like to raise some money for cancer research. Stark statistics - cancer affects 1 in 3 people, breast cancer affects 1 in 8. I never thought it would affect me - a healthy mother, a veterinary surgeon and a parkrunner - but it did. Therefore I thought I would go for a simple way for people to donate some money. It doesn't involve you running a marathon, or throwing a bucket of ice water over your head just putting a hat on and taking a photo. If you don't want to go to the trouble don't worry a simple donation instead will be great!
Why 'hope' - cancer makes you hope ..that it never happens to you, your family or friends, ... and if it does, you Hope to be cured.
