Story

This year I will be doing a trek in the Himalayas to raise funds for Deafblind Scotland. I also want to raise awareness of Deafblind Scotland and the services it provides, services which are a lifeline for many deafblind people.

Deafblind Scotland is hoping to raise funds to complete a purpose built centre providing essential support to adults with dual sensory loss. This would mean a great deal to me and many other deafblind adults. So I want to help in any way I can.

Being deafblind myself means this trek will be a major challenge. I cannot do this alone, I need a guide communicator. And apart from the ardous trekking I will be camping for the first time in my life! My guide communicator for the trek is Gina Lundie and we will both have to train hard for this event, it's certainly no holiday!

My first challenge is to raise the funds to do the trek. I know that times are hard and lots of charities are asking for financial support. So I am asking anyone who can, to donate £1, but that means I need 3,000 people to donate £1. £3,000 is the minimum required. I would of course be most grateful for any larger donations, but every £1 counts!

I've received generous online donations and the offline activities are helping enormously too. We had a race night, family and friends came along, we all had a great night and through everyone's generosity raised £1,080.00. Many people supported me in lots of ways, so my thanks to everyone.

In preparation for the trek, I have been walking every day and going door to door in my neighbourhood, raising awareness and people have been generous with their sponsorship. You can follow my progress here, on Facebook and Twitter.

So what will I be doing this October, well hopefully flying to Kathmandu then onto Pokhara and trekking along the Seti river valley. You can read more about the trek and itinerary at: http://www.discoveradventure.com/challenge.aspx?t=52
