Story
At the end of the summer, a group of 15 St Raphael's supporters including me, will spend 6 days trekking the Great Wall of China to raise funds to help this amazing hospice who provide high quality end of life care. I may be known for taking on a challenge and this is certainly going to be a major one for me in 2016. Each day we will be walking (well climbing up and down) on sections of the Great Wall. Walking is partly on flagstones of various conditions. At times it will be rough and rocky underfoot, at other times it can be muddy.
Why am I doing it? I had always known about the Hospice since it first opened as my parents were friends of the Daughters of the Cross sisters who opened it. However, since I took early retirement three years ago I decided to volunteer on reception. I quickly realised that the work of the Hospice was more than just the 14 beds in the Hospice and that through the outreach work and Day Centre over 1,000 people and their families are supported each year.
So when I heard that they were looking for volunteers to do Trek China, I felt I should give it a go and try to do a little bit to support this amazing charity. I will be paying my own expenses so all donations and money raised will go to the charity. If you can donate even £5, it will be appreciated!
