Story
My name is Carlos Lopez and my brother is Alvaro Lopez. We are Londoners of Spanish descent, our father is from Galicia in the north-west region of Spain and our mother is from the Canary Islands. Together we're rasing money for the Emily Ash Trust because they help families facing cancer, providing them with support and events that allow them to share quality time together.
One of our fathers dreams has always been to walk El Camino De Santiago, also known as The way of St James with his sons. Being from Galicia El Camino means a lot to the people of the region and as true Gallegos we all 3, felt an obligation to undertake the ancient pilgrimage.
The Way of St James is a Christian pilgrimage, often referred to also as El Camino de Santiago and has existed for over 1000 years. It finishes in the city of Santiago de Compostela where legend says, is the site of the burial of St James remains, having been transported from Jerusalem.
Circumstances in both mine and my brother’s lives changed in the recent past and we ended up walking 150km with our father last summer. We travelled through the most astoundingly beautiful natural landscape you are ever likely to see and we immersed ourselves in the ways of the pilgrims. Consequently, my brother and I decided we would return in 2012 to raise money for a worthy cause.
We will start in Roncesvalles, which is near the French border and Pamplona, and walk the 800KM to Fisterre which is on the west coast of Spain and means the end of the world.
Two years ago I had the pleasure of meeting a special little boy who literally changed my perspective on life within a split second of meeting him. He was a Giant of the heart and had the courage of a Lion, courage that I had never before seen in someone so young. He ended up being my hero and will always be remembered by me and many other lucky people that were touched by his shining presence......
My hero passed away recently..... i will miss him greatly
