My very dear friend Cathie, passed away in St Leonard's Hospice, York on 8th June 2014, after a short but fiercely-fought battle with cancer.

St Leonard's is a very, very special place. Walking through the front door there always feels like walking into a big hug... In Cathie's last weeks, each and every member of staff at the hospice went out of their way to make sure she was as comfortable as possible and that they all got to spend a lot of time together as a family. The care, compassion and dignity with which the staff treat all of the patients (and their families and friends) is incredible and helped make what was a really difficult time for them feel calm and peaceful and full of love and laughter.  Cathie's family will never forget the difference St Leonard's made to our last weeks with her.

St Leonard's needs to raise £2.8 million every year to carry on doing the amazing work that they do and every penny counts. Cathie's friends and family have set ourselves a target of £10,000.
