Story

I am inviting local schools, colleges, nurseries, childminders and companies to hold a “Wear Something Bright Day” in memory of my daughter Jemma-Louise Roberts to raise much needed funds for Alder Hey Children's Charity.  Jemma was a pupil at St David's, they and Aspull Church School have said they would like to help along with Standish CHS,  Wigan & Leigh College and Wigan Council along with many others.

We are looking at Friday 27th February.  Last year Jemma was admitted to hospital on the 21st Feb and sadly passed away on the 1st March, this date is the closest Friday to her anniversary. I have put a link to Jemma's Just Giving Page which has her story at the bottom of this email.

Jemma was a very popular girl, bright and bubbly who loved bright colours and rainbows.  She swam for Hindley Swimming Club and was a very competitive breaststroke swimmer.  Jemma also loved to help the younger children, she did a course so that she could be a young poolside assistant.  Along with this Jemma's other passion was flute, she played in Wigan Youth Concert Band and also Wigan Flute Choir, the opportunities this gave her where amazing.  She travelled to Germany with band and played a number of concerts there, she also took part in the Music for Youth competition in Rochdale and as the youngest member of flute choir, at just 10 she introduced the choir to the judges and audience.

Jemma was a very kind and helpful girl who from being very young wanted to work with children, she was a tremendous help to me whilst I was childminding and all the families loved her.

One thing that stood out about Jemma was her willingness to help others, this is one of the reason why I want to raise money in her memory for Alder Hey Children's Charity.

This year Alder Hey is moving to a brand new, purpose built, hospital, Alder Hey in the Park.  They need to raise £30million to have the best possible equipment and medicine available for the children in their care.

If you would like to help then please contact me by email and I will add your school/college to the growing numbers.  My email address is dianeroberts19@gmail.com
