EGP is a student run charity at Edinburgh University, supporting sustainable development projects across Africa, India and Nepal.

This year our team of ten will be heading to Uganda to build a health ward in a village in the Soroti district in North-East Africa. We are raising funds to construct and furnish a health ward, which will add to the clinic built by last year's group. Eventually the project will be developed into a fully functioning hospital. This project was proposed to EGP by the community as something it is in dire need of, as locals currently have to walk 28km to the nearest hospital. With rates of malaria sufferers standing at 90 per cent, the current situation is simply not adequate.

We are aiming to raise £10,000 for our project.

Examples of Costs:

£3.30 would buy a mosquito net

100 burnt out bricks: £4.44

a hospital admissions bed: £15,50

A mason's wage for 9 weeks: £180

As the propsal was designed by the residents of the village, this project has a simple aim: to assist with the community's own goals for their own community. As a result, the money raised really does go directly to the issue at hand. The team's flights and vaccinations for instance, are not included in the target stated.
