Story
I've always wanted to run a marathon; it's on my 'bucket list'! However, I'm pretty certain that I'll only ever do it once so I decided it might as well be London... Having applied (unsuccessfully!) for a ballot place every year for the past 5 years, I was determined to run in 2014 so applied for a charity place to raise money for a cause very close to my heart.
On 7th December 2011, the beautiful Michelle Whyte, a fabulous friend and colleague lost her brave fight with breast cancer so I'll be pounding the streets of London on 13th April in her memory. I first met Michelle when I was a newly qualified midwife and she was a student. I think we bonded because we were both single parents who decided to change our careers for the better. She was an amazing midwife and a fabulous friend.
I still think of her and I, setting the world to rights during long night shifts and miss her very much. Every training run I've done so far makes me reflect on the brave battle she fought with this horrible disease and every time I'm tempted to skip a training session, I think of Michelle. A run in the cold/wind/rain is nothing in comparison to what she went through; I'm doing it for her! Any amount you can afford to sponsor me would be fabulous; together we can beat this terrible disease!
