Story

I am running Reigate's Half Marathon on the 20th September 2015 in memory of Grace's mummy, Caroline Waller. I am doing this to help raise awareness for the condition as only a teeny tiny percent of the population know about Ataxia. I am also running the half marathon because I love Grace very much and I am extremely proud of what she has achieved since her mum passed away on the 31st December 2014.

Grace and her sister Faye are so near to raising £10,000 for Ataxia, so to know that I have helped in some way to smash this target with them would truly be amazing, as all funds raised are going to such a worthy cause for much needed research.

Ataxia is the name given to a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination, and speech. There are many different types of Ataxia that can affect people in different ways.

Some forms of Ataxia are treatable, but in most cases there is still no cure. It is important to remember that Ataxia is a symptom and may occur as a result of many different underlying conditions. Ataxia UK are funding a wide range of research projects to try to find treatments that can help Ataxia, and ultimately find a cure.

Thank you for your support! x

RCN 1102391
Ataxia is a type of neurological condition that affects balance, speech, and co-ordination. Ataxia is progressive, meaning it gets worse with time, until people become entirely dependent on others for all their needs. Over 10,000 people in the UK have ataxia and there is currently no cure. Ataxia UK is the national charity for people affected by ataxia. We provide unique services and support, including a dedicated helpline and advocacy service; events and conferences where people can meet and share information; a quarterly magazine; a website with lots of information and a discussion forum; publications, films, and reports. As well as our specialist services, in the last five years we have spent over £3 million on research into possible treatments and cures for ataxia. Our vision is a world without ataxia and, with the help of our brilliant supporters, we are working towards this every day.
