Story
On Tuesday 29th July 2014, Tommy Bull, affectionately known by those who knew him at Sidcup RFC as 'RANGER 1', sadly and quite suddenly passed away. He was just 62.
Only a few short weeks earlier, Tommy had been on tour with the Rangers in Toronto. It's fair to say that Tommy often appeared to be a reluctant tourist but those of us who'd known him for some time, know how much he enjoyed the camaraderie, the banter....and the quiet moments alone with a book.
Although not always in the thick of it, Tommy was often at the centre of some the most memorable moments of tour. No one who was there will ever forget the events of Kangaroo Court in Valencia that led a year later, to Tommy producing and donning a black bin liner at Kangaroo Court in Magaluf.
Tommy was not one of the world's athletes. Not for him the London Marathon but a walk in the countryside and he'd be there. It seems somehow fitting then, that as a means of remembering Tommy, raising funds for Oxfam and the Gurkhas, we embark on this 'walk in the English countryside'.
Trailwalk is a 100km (62.5mi) walk across the South Downs to be completed by all four team members in less than 30 hours. This means starting Saturday morning, walking all day and all night to finish Sunday lunch time. No mean feat for a bunch of 50 somethings with many ailing body parts.
We are team 'For Tommy' - Ian Anderson, Dave Price, Simon Vincent Snr and Paul Voce ably supported by Brian Castleton and Paul Graham.
Whether it be in Tommy's name or simply to support a worthy cause, please give generously.
Thank you.
