Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are planning on walking coast to coast at the end of June, across 4 days along the Hadrian's wall National Trail - a total of around 90 miles from Bowness on Solway, via Wallsend then on to Tynemouth!
This October would have been my colleague Dave Smith's daughter Abigail's 5th Birthday, so we wanted to mark what would have been a landmark year for her with a fundraising event for ROSY, the organisation that supported Dave and his wife during that far too brief time that Abigail was was here.
Abigail was born with a condition called Edwards syndrome or Trisomy 18. This is a severely life limiting condition, most babies with this rarely make it through the first 24 hours as there are so many associated problems. Abigail was a fighter though and lived for 11 weeks and 2 days, eventually passing on New year's day 2008. For the first month of her life none of the family left the hospital, but thanks to the help and support of George Hedges and the team at ROSY, they were able to spend the rest of the time they had at home with her.
ROSY - Respite nursing for Oxfordshire's Sick Youngsters is an organisation that raises an awareness of the need for respite nursing and funds to boost the extremely limited resources of the Oxfordshire's Children's Respite Nursing Team, who offer respite nursing to terminally, acutely or chronically ill children and babies in their homes. Their continued support is invaluable to families in similar situations to ours and provides that extra help and friendship that you need to cope with every day. Please look them up at www.rosy.org.uk
