Story
Our 350km charity cycling challenge will see us cycle from the lower slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, through both Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks which boast some of this planets most amazing wildlife. We bike through Maasai villages to eventually finish at the jaw-dropping UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Ngorongoro Crater Reserve. Whilst this all sounds idyllic, we've been reliably informed that it will indeed still be a challenge with Tanzanian 'roads' being very different to what we're used to. It certainly won't be flat either.
Seeing as we're embarking on this little trip, we felt it would be appropriate to raise money for a local cause and one that is close to my (Isabel's) heart: Defying Dementia.
Defying Dementia is a fundraising Campaign set up by Lancaster University to raise awareness of their research into neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Motor Neurone Disease.
Defying Dementia is a community-supported campaign designed to change the world that we live in and make a real difference to people's lives, by tackling the big threat that is presented by these brain diseases.
Defying Dementia was founded in order to progress a promising Alzheimer's drug into human clinical trials in November 2014. Now, nearly two years later, this drug is close to being in human trials, thanks to tremendous public support, which means that Lancaster University can carry out pre-clinical safety trials.
Tom and I have fully funded our trip ourselves so every penny we raise will go to support defying Dementia.
