Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have worked as a Medical Secretary at The Phyllis Tuckwell for the past 14 years. Over the years I have met so many inspirational people, some of them patients, who despite everything they are going through become Hospice Ambassadors, who get out and do everything they can to get across the message that we are a charity and get only a small amount of our funding from the NHS. Every penny raised goes towards patient care and ensuring that the Hospice can give the very best to patients and their families supporting them not only within the Hospice but by providing many services such as Day Hospice, Community Nurses, Hospice Care at Home and various therapies.
Amongst all those wonderful, inspirational people one person has made such a profound impact upon me - a brave young lady called Holly Webber, who despite her illness raised thousands of pounds for the Hospice. Sadly, Holly died last August. Afterwards I was thinking of some way that I could personally honour her memory. I wanted to do something which made me face a fear. Holly faced many fears herself - she faced the ultimate fear..... For me abseiling down a 300ft tower, whilst scary, isnt going to kill me. Hopefully though, it will raise money for the Hospice so that it can continue to support people like Holly and her family.
I have never, ever abseiled - today (16 3 13) I did my first abseil practice at our local climbing centre Craggy Island in Guildford - and I am hooked! There are actually others joining me who will be abseiling in memory of other patients. So hopefully we will all be able to raise more than a few thousand pounds, optimistically perhaps enough to fund a patient's care for a week if we are really lucky.
