Story
On Sunday 10th August 2014 I am going to participate in one of my hardest challenges ever -The Prudential London-Surrey 100 mile Bike Ride.
Why, do I hear you ask, am I entering this crazy event ... In memory of my dear sister in law Alex Symington who sadly lost her battle to breast cancer last November.
Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 starts in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital out to Surrey and back with a time limit of 9 hours (I am aiming for 7 1/2 hours!)
Alex was an inspirational person and touched the lives of everyone she met. She never gave up and was always happy, positive and never said no. Alex supported numerous other people experiencing Breast Cancer and ran tea parties, modelled in London and Norwich and selling jewellery on QVC in aid of Breast Cancer care to help raise money. Alex also modelled in the Keeping Abreast Fashion show in Norwich in her wheelchair 1 week before passing away with syringe driver tucked in her glittery handbag and of course a smile of her face.
Keeping Abreast is another local charity which provided a huge amount of support for her throughout her battle but also to me following the loss of dear Alex. I have met a number of the ladies in this group and they all say how amazing, inspirational and positive Alex was and someone who will truly be missed. If I reach over my £750 target I would like to donate some of the additional money to this charity.
I am very grateful for you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and anything you are able to sponsor me would be great. Did you know just £2 helps buy a headscarf for a woman who has lost her hair during treatment, £5 provides a comprehensive, easy-to-understand information pack for someone newly diagnosed with breast cancer and £25 trains and supports a member of the Nursing Network for a year to help improve the care for people with Breast cancer. Every pound really will help to make a difference to support people going through this horrible illness.
I was lucky enough to tell Alex before she sadly passed away that I was entering this event and she was really pleased for me but said won't I be really tired. I replied after all she had battled her way through I am determined to battle my way through this one..... what more motivation do I need.
