Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. The inspiration to actually get up and do something practical came from a complete sense of powerlessness when I could not help my 15 year old niece with her battle with an eating disorder.
Not only could I not do anything to help her I felt as though I was not supporting her family as I( along with many professionals) did not have the answers to their questions. Being a nurse I struggled greatly with this and the guilt of not visibly being able to do anything was at times unbearable.
Because she had an acceptable BMI, we found it increasingly difficult to get help, irrespective of the fact that she had lost 2stone in 3 weeks. The wheels of the system grind slowly, one department treats differently to another and the service is grossly overstretched,. Inpatient beds are often out of area or indeed the country!
There are so many children and young adults (male and female) struggling alone as there is not enough awareness to catch it early or resources to support them.
Then we stumbled upon SEED. Their support to both sufferer and family was and continues to be exemplary . A calm and reasoning voice when it all seems too much for the family, and support, therapy and understanding for the sufferer.
Eating disorders shadow the family and everyone associated with them ,and deeply effects those closest. The only way we felt we could make sense of this was to do something that will raise money for the work of the organisation that has helped the most, Relatives, friends’, brother, cousin have all seen the amazing work and want to say thankyou, and hope that our small effort can raise awareness and funds so that there continues to be a life line, so that other sufferers can get support when they most need it.
