Story
I am running the Shrewsbury full marathon on June 23rd in memory of Rosie Whitaker.
Rosie was a popular, beautiful girl who brought joy to everyone through her various talents, including dancing performing at the Royal Opera House, diving, writing poetry and piano playing. She was also an army cadet.
Rosie ran the 5K Race for Life for Cancer Research UK and the Adidas Women's 5K challenge for the NSPCC. Rosie was always keen to raise money for good causes. She also planned to help others in the future.
For most of her life, she was very happy and well-loved, so her sudden and tragic death has left a huge hole in many lives. I am confident with her families backing that something positive can come from this tragedy.
By donating to Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide, you can help raise awareness of suicide prevention and save young lives. People who know me will realise what a massive achievement completing a marathon will be. So please support this very worthwhile cause by sponsoring me.
Before this tragedy I was unaware of the huge issue of young suicide in the UK. "Suicide is the most common cause of death in young people under the age of 35 in the UK." Young people with emotional problems need to realise there are places they can go for positive help instead of visiting harmful websites that encourage destructive behaviour.
The aim is to raise awareness so that teachers, parents and young people are able to detect the warning signs. Papyrus offers help and advice to individuals as well as schools, colleges and universities.
