Story

My stepmother Louise was diagnosed in May 2013 with neuroendocrine pancreatic tumours with secondary tumours in the liver. She passed away with this rare disease peacefully on Wednesday 26th June 2013, in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee in her husbands arms, she was aged just 42 years old. She has left behind 2 young beautiful daughters Kimberley (8) and Emily (6)  and 2 step sons Daniel and Michael and myself Leanne. She will be forever in our hearts and never forgotten xxxx.

Louise's Story.

Louise had not been well for a couple of years but nothing too serious or so she thought, she was always tired and she was prone to hot flushes. She went for a scan at the local hospital about 2 years ago and they found growths on her liver and she was told they were probably cysts. She returned back to the doctors who asked if her family had a history "of going through the change of life early" as this would explain the hot flushes and tiredness. Unfortunately Louise's mother had, so it was mistakenly thought that this was the cause of her illness. She was tested for that and when it was discovered that this wasn't the cause of her now increasing tiredness and a low but constant pain she was then asked if she had a previous history of ulcers. Yet again, unfortunately Louise had an ulcer earlier in her life so the pain was put down to another ulcer. She was given a course of ranitidine and told to take paracetamol for the pain. During the last 6 months of Louise's life she repeatedly returned to the doctor who gave her stronger painkillers as her symtoms remained, to our families knowledge Louise was never tested for anything else and she remained on ranitidine and painkillers. The painkillers were increased as Louise's pain got worse, Louise returned to the doctors at the end of April and had to get another GP as our normal doctor was unavailable. This doctor saw Louise and was concerned with the amount of painkillers Louise was having to take and the amout of time Louise was spending in bed. Three days after being given stronger painkillers Louise required even stronger tablets as the pain was so intense, so she phoned the GP she saw only 3 days eariler. The GP agreed to stronger tablets but 2 hours after Louise's phone call the GP decided to make a house call on her way home from work. She was not happy and she admitted Louise into Ninewells Hospital that very night.

Ninewells carried out tests and they discovered 5 large growths with the largest being 6 cm long. Two of these growths were on her pancreas and 3 were on her liver, we were told that 2 of her growths were inoperable due to their location. Louise was given the very best of care in the 3 wards she attended whilst in Ninewells hospital and they attempted to control her pain as best they could. Louise underwent Chemo but by this time it was to late and she only managed one dose as her health declined rapidly just before her second dose was due. Louise fought this terrible illness with everything she had as she loved her family and she had waited so long to have children that she wasn't going to leave them easily. Louise died in ward 32 of Ninewells hospital on June 26th, her youngest daughters 6th birthday and only 1 day after her wedding aniversary to my dad, John.

She was an amazing, caring woman who was cruly taken from us far too early in life.
