Story
Bodie was with us for only 10 months but during that time he brought so much joy and happiness to many lives. People found it hard to pass him by without stopping to say hello. His cheeky smile and royal wave were guaranteed to attract attention!
Bodie died following a choking accident and he was cared for by 'Bodie's Angels' who are an amazing group of nurses at the Leicester Royal Infirmary Children's Intensive Care Unit. During this time Nick and Donna felt that they did not want Bodie's life to be forgotten and wanted something good to come from a sad situation.
Bodie had prayer from all over the world and we all asked God for a miracle. We didn't get the miracle that we had hoped for but Bodie showed an amazing strength that meant he would go on to save the lives of others and inspire us to raise money for other children and families.
Nick and Donna decided that they wanted Bodie to be an Organ Donor and he went on to donate his liver and bowel. In doing this he saved 2 lives and also saved their parents and families from the pain that they now feel. He has also given his strength to both of the little girls who have received his organs, as both have made good progress. If you are reading this and have not yet registered yourself or your children to be organ donors we urge you to do this now. www.organdonation.nhs.uk Although nothing can take away their pain, knowing that Bodie has given the gift of life to others has been a great comfort to Nick and Donna.
Nick and Donna have decided to support Rainbows as their chosen charity. They are aware that if Bodie had survived he would have been severely brain damaged and they may have used the services offered by the charity. Something that they found hard was how to keep things as normal as possible for Lyla, whilst being at Bodie's side when he was in hospital. They only had to do this for 2 weeks but for the families that are supported by Rainbows this is something they have to cope with daily. Allowing respite care for families, and fun acitivities for siblings we think is priceless. Rainbows also provide great support to families and siblings following the death of a child and offer fun activities to help children understand grief and their emotions.
They want Bodie's legacy to be one of strength, courage and love. They are coping because of the support that they have received from many different places. All the money that is raised will be used to make things a little easier for other families.
