Story
If you know Michael, then you know he is not going to sit down and type up a meaningful and inspirational story explaining why he is going to run the marathon and why you should donate money to his cause.
The story is short: his cousins are coming in from Ireland to raise money for the Cork Cancer Research Center which was founded by their father, Gerry. Cousin Gerry passed away last year, from the very thing he spent years trying to cure. You can read more about CCRC here: (http://www.breakthroughcancerresearch.ie)
It seems the older Michael gets, the less effort it takes his sisters to convice him to do rediculous things on the spur of the moment for charity -- like run a marathon with less than 10 weeks preparation. Maybe the chanting of "the "New York Sullivan's need proper representation" was what convinced him . I'm pretty sure he just wants to show up all of the runners that have been training for months. So, he has shelved the cigarettes and Oreos (but, not the beer) and its off to the races on November 3rd.
We can't be sure that this race won't kill him, but, if you donate to the CCRC, you'll be doing your part to make sure that cancer won't! Here's hoping he makes it to the finish line -- vertical.
