Story
On 20th August 2013 my husband, Nev, passed away after suffering a subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by an unknown brain aneurysm. On Friday 16th August he was surfing in Devon with me, my sister Kate and one of his closest friends, Tom, and so was air lifted to nearby Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. The Pencarrow Intensive Care Unit at Derriford Hospital looked after Nev for 4 days and were totally amazing, the nurses and doctors did everything they could for him, and us as a family, and so it seems only right to raise money for their unit so they can continue to provide such an excellent level of care for future patients.
Whilst Nev was in Pencarrow Ward he required an air-circulation cooling unit, which is around 11k to buy so as a group we are trying to raise this amount for Spring Intensive Care, Derriford Hospitals ICU registered charity. Visit http://www.springintensivecare.org for more info.
Friends and family of mine and Nevs are getting together on May Day Bank Holiday Weekend to take on the Three Peaks Challenge. Nev and I did this in 2010 and missed the 24 hour deadline by 50 minutes and so Nev always wanted to try again and achieve the goal of climbing all 3 Peaks within 24 hours, he most likely wanted to do it in 22! So as he isn't here now we will do it for him.... I will also be taking part in a number of other events this year including a 10k run in February and a Marathon on October 5th, all of which I will do for Spring Intensive Care.
