Story
On April 25, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, killing over 8,000 people and demolishing half a million homes. On May 12, 2015, a second 7.3 earthquake struck causing further devastation to an already crippled country. With 40% of its population living in extreme poverty, the road to recovery for Nepal will long and treacherous.
Within 72 hours of the initial earthquake, the All Hands team was on the ground - and in the past year, All Hands Volunteers has contributed towards the rebuilding of 359 homes and schools in Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk, and Nuwakot. They have also been involved in numerous community projects ranging from masonry training to school reading projects, water catchment systems, and more.
After a year of recovery, the Nepali people are still in dire need of shelter, schools, and resources - and All Hands will spend the next year addressing this need in every way it can, with the continued help of its hardworking international volunteers and generous donors.
We'll be joining All Hands' Thames River Challenge for the second year in a row to raise much needed funds for All Hands' continued efforts in Nepal, Ecuador and a number of other relief projects around the world.
Thanks very much for donating anything you can. Every bit helps.
