The gods willing I will be Fifty in April 2016, a privilege denied to many, and so I am walking Five Million Steps to raise money for the Cransley Hospice who provided care and support for my oldest and dearest friend Richard Tustin (or the Tuzmeister, Grendel, Tuz, Tuss or many other nicknames depending on where you knew him from) and his family through his final days when he was battling terminal cancer in 2014.
It is also in tribute to my Dad - Trevor Ashby, taken too soon with Cancer (although not at the Cransley Hospice) along with everyone who has needed or will ever need the support of the Hospice Movement.
Cransley Hospice is a marvelous place and a beacon of hope for people undergoing the toughest and most frightening of experiences - terminal illness & ultimately death. Their work is supported by donations and charitable events and so I wish to dedicate 2016 to raising money for them.
By my reckoning this involves an average of 13,700 steps per day and will be around 2500 miles - made from a combination of general day to day walking along with involvement in some 'One Off' events through the year. As it is my Fiftieth Year I would like to raise at least 50p per mile - so my initial target for fundraising is £1250.
