Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In November I am undertaking a 4 day trek in the Sahara Desert, to raise money for a local hospice, "Hospiscare".I will be part of a group, accompanied by Berber guides with camel handlers

I am trekking in memory of Karen Foggett, colleague and friend who sadly passed away in 2012, after a short battle with cancer, she was only 41. Karen spent her final week at Hospiscare where she received the best possible care. By raising money we can ensure that other people in need of hospice receive the same level of care & dignity that was given to both Karen and her family.

Those of you who know me, will be aware of my past experience of walking the SWCP. The Sahara Trek is going to be more challenging & demanding in comparison.

Starting at the Moroccan/Algerian border, the trek is over 4 days, trekking for approx 8 hours and covering 15-20km per day.The terrain is diverse - Sand dune fields, rugged stony ground, dried up river beds and large rocky outcrops. In temperatures up to 35 degrees. At the end of a gruelling days trek there is no luxury of a bed, I will be camping each night where temperatures drop as low as zero. There will be no chemical toilet, just a hole in the ground!! I've never camped before, not to mention I'm afraid of anything that moves, so pity the snakes & scorpions or anything else that roams the Desert, as I will sure to be screaming at it all. This is totally out of my comfort zone.!! Undeniably this will be an experience to remember but a challenging one too, and with your support it will be worth it.

Although you may not have known Karen, we all know or know of someone with a terminal illness who has needed the services of a hospice. My auntie passed away in 2011 to cancer, she only had time  for telephone support she died in the ambulance on her way to be admitted to hospiscare. My Nanna passed away less than 6 months ago, sadly she lived in Spain where they do not have any hospices.

Please support me by donating whatever you can to help me reach my fundraising target. Hospiscare are an invaluable organisation that needs funds to continue the brilliant work that they do.
