Story

For Abigail x

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am joining my brothers, Dave and Paul, and their friends on The Abigail Trail Part 3. They are walking the 90 mile Ridgeway over 4 days in July and I will be joining them for part of it. We are fundraising for the charity ROSY.  ROSY is the organisation that helped Dave and his wife Helen get through the cruelly short time that they had with their daughter Abigail, and continues to help them even now with their ongoing friendship and support.

My beautiful niece, Abigail, was born with a condition called Edwards syndrome or Trisomy 18. This is a severely life limiting condition, most babies with this rarely make it through the first 24 hours as there are so many associated problems. Abigail was a fighter though and lived for 11 weeks and 2 days, eventually passing on New year's day 2008. For the first month of her life Dave and Helen didn't leave the hospital, but thanks to the help and support of George Hedges and the team at ROSY, they were able to spend the rest of the time they had at home with her, including her only Christmas.

ROSY - Respite nursing for Oxfordshire's Sick Youngsters is an organisation that raises an awareness of the need for respite nursing and funds to boost the extremely limited resources of the Oxfordshire's Children's Respite Nursing Team, who offer respite nursing to terminally, acutely or chronically ill children and babies in their homes. Their continued support is invaluable to families in similar situations to Dave and Helen and provides that extra help and friendship that you need to cope with every day.
