Story
Sara Jones collapsed in the shower at her home in Widnes at 8.30am on 19th March 2009 exactly two weeks after celebrating her 18th birthday.
Her mum called an ambulance and medics battled to save her but she died 12 hours later in Whiston Hospital from pneumococcal septicaemia, leaving her family devastated. Friends and Family raised over £6,000 in 2009 for Zoe's baby place hospice in Liverpool in her memory.
19th March 2014 brings around Sara's 5th anniversary since she left our world and her friends and family again will be fundraising in her name and memory, this time for 'Child Bereavement UK' who have helped families like Sara's cope with such a tragic loss.
The fundraising will also consist of 'SazFest' a fun run festival on 9th March 2014 at Cronton College in Widnes where Sara attended as a student, which will have a raffle and many more events on going.
Proceeds will go to Child Bereavement UK, which supports families and educates professionals when a child dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement. Sadly Chrysalis, a Bereavement counselling association, whom provided support to us, as a family, following the death of Sara, has since folded due to lack of funding, as it was a small charity based service. We have chosen Child Bereavement Uk, who are hoping to open an office in Runcorn around Christmas time, to help people in our local area, in a similar situation to us. I honestly don't know how we as a family would have got through without the amazing support of Richard Stafford, who even after funding was lost, still came in his own time. We will be eternally grateful to him, and can only hope that families like ours get the support that they need, in their darkest times.
