I'm going to Lesvos in April to volunteer my time to support with burying those who have died trying to cross the Aegan Sea. Can you imagine dying and not being buried according to your faith? Or being buried without an identity as your body is washed ashore after dying at sea. 

Refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and across the world are losing their lives trying to cross the Aegan Sea between Turkey and Greece, in order to find safety in Europe. 

Thousands have died and many have gone unaccounted for. It’s heartbreaking for refugees who have fled war and persecution to then not be able to bury their loved ones in accordance to their faith. It is the last thought that a refugee would comprehend when the sea becomes their final resting place.

We will be supporting local groups on the ground with burial assistance and fundraising to purchase: 

1. A hearse for carrying the deceased 

2.  Coffins for transport

3.  Shrouds to clothe

4.  Engraved name plaques for grave identification.

5.  Provide assistance to an undertaker to continue supporting the burials. 

Support the development of a cemetery including developing a morgue, ghusul and prayer facilities.
