Story
Most people will be aware of the worsening refugee crisis in Lesvos as a result of the influx of refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. They have lost their homes and continue to risk their lives to reach mainland Europe in the hope of a better future. Sadly, that future often results in the loss of loved ones during the perilous journey and a lack of even basic essentials after their arrival.
As a practising lawyer in London, I act for some of the most vulnerable members of society and assist them in improving their housing conditions or in many cases simply keeping a roof over their head. However, their circumstances pale in comparison to the plight of the refugees in Lesvos. I hope to use my skills and experience in a more practical way.
I have joined a team of 8 volunteers hoping to make a difference. We will be travelling to Lesvos on 16 April and returning on 23 April 2016. We will be offering the following services:
1. Purchasing essential supplies for the families including clothing and bags, and toys and reading materials for children.
2. Providing charging stations for mobile phones and Internet access points so they can access information and remain in contact.
3. Assist with the burial of the dead and provide counselling and support for the bereaved families.
4. Provide assistance to local volunteers and charities to assist in their long term support
Please donate generously to this worthy cause. Even the smallest contribution goes a long way and gives hope to desperate people who think that the rest of the world has forgotten them.
