Story
In August 2013, my best friend Nev died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage whilst on holiday with his wife and some friends in Devon.
He was a massively energetic and athletic person, and was enjoying a surfing weekend before he collapsed – he was airlifted from the beach to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he was treated in the Pencarrow Ward Intensive Care Unit. I spent the weekend with him, his family and some of his closest friends and can personally vouch for the incredible level of care that he received over those few days.
In August a large group of us are going to take on the Three Peaks Challenge - the whole group has set itself a target of raising £11,000 for the ICU at Derriford Hospital (Spring Intensive Care Unit is the name of the registered charity). The amount is so very important to us, as this is the cost of one of the specialist pieces of equipment that we believe made his time in the hospital that little bit more comfortable…
I know it would be an amazing gift to not only the hospital, but to Nev’s wife and family, to be able to contribute in giving a similar level of care to other patients (and their families) going through their own ordeals, so I hope that you can support in whatever way you can!
