I was diagnosed in April 2015 with stage 4 bowel cancer with liver and peritoneal metastases.  I have had two big operations and several rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy and am currently receiving a new targeted therapy which is the result of extensive recent research.  Such work is exciting and game-changing.  We’re raising money for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) which is a global leader in this field.  The proceeds of this fund-raise will be directed to research into personalised therapy and immunotherapy which are shaping the future of cancer treatment.

We are taking part in a gruelling cycle ride called the Dartmoor Demon.  It is 90 km long with a total climb of 1600 metres and will not be a walk in the park.  Cycling Weekly calls it “potentially the hardest event in the Sportive Series”.  I and my intrepid team-mates - my cousin Neil, my father-in-law David, my colleagues Dom T, James D and Tim C and my old friends Dom H, James H, Alex, Will and Charlie - will be grappling with the “short and punchy climbs” and the “long drawn-out ascents” whilst trying to take in some of the extraordinary beauty around us.  I grew up in Devon and spent much of my childhood on Dartmoor, tramping across its marshy expanses, climbing the tors and mostly getting rained on.  I hope this experience doesn’t unduly compromise my many happy memories ...
