Jane and Susie have run together for several years now and in anticipation of 2 rather significant birthdays we decided to set ourselves a serious challenge. The UTMB is a tried and tested route covering 170 km of tracks through and around the Mont Blanc region with a climb of approx 1500 metres per day and descent of the same (that’s about 500 flights of stairs - up and down). We are being joined on our journey by Adrian and Belinda, who are both keen distance runners. Although our luggage is moved from hotel to hotel along the way we will need to carry emergency supplies, water, id and food on a daily basis. The circular route will take us 6 days from France into Italy and Switzerland and back to our starting point in Chamonix
We decided that in order to spur us on and because what we are doing is such a big challenge we will raise as much money as we can for CLIMB - Children Living with Inherited Metabolic Disorders. Not only is the name apt - but the charity funds research into these conditions & supports families such as our dear friends, the Blore-Rimmers, who lost their daughter Esme last year aged just 17. Esme had a rare undiagnosed metabolic disorder known as MCADD.
