On July 23rd we will be taking on the challenge of swimming all the way across Galway Bay from Aughinish, Co. Clare to the iconic Blackrock diving tower in Salthill. The swim is 13km in total and we will negotiate the cold, deep blue waters in a relay. Training has begun in earnest and bad weather, jelly fish or even a few seals won’t put us off now! Why? Because it’s all for a great cause.
Every year, all proceeds from the Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay swim go to Cancer Care West. Cancer Care West supports people whose lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis making them a charity which we may all lean on at some point in our lives. Residential accommodation, cancer support services, cancer awareness and educational programmes are all services provided by this wonderful charity at no cost to patients and their families. (For more information see www.cancercarewest.ie)
But, they rely heavily on the charitable donations of the generous public to keep providing these necessary services. So, please show your support and consider donating to make this their most successful fundraiser yet.
You can find out more about the swim on the website http://www.galwaybayswim.com and the highlights of a short documentary capturing the essence of the Galway Bay Swim and where the fundraising goes is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/YBy4b4iuxg4
