Plenty of carbs and an early night...off to Minehead tomorrow!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you are aware, a great mate of mine, Ollie Meade-King, who I was at school with and whom many of you know well, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in September 2009. Since this date, Ollie has stoically battled through his chemotherapy programme, and on eventual completion of his degree and with a good job lined up for April, his recovery really is an inspiration to us all.
I have therefore decided, with a little time to spare before I start my job in March, to walk the entire South West Coast Path, in one go, to raise money for ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund), a charity which supports the excellent work of the Haematology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Stretching from Minehead in Somerset around to Poole in Dorset, at a total of 630 miles, this is the same distance from Exeter to Inverness, Britain's most northerly city. With some of the wildest and most severe coastline in the country, long stretches of multiple steep inclines and declines and, especially at this time of year, gale force winds, driving rain and sub-zero temperatures to contend with, walking will not be easy.
I hope to complete the hike in approximately 35 days doing between 16 and 21 miles per day. Ollie, with ample Cornish blood and spirit in him, will join me for the Cornwall leg.
By donating, even just a small amount, you will be helping others whose lives are affected by leukaemia and other blood related cancers, like Ollie, to make equally successful recoveries.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I have a very long way to walk and the weather will be against me so please, dig deep and donate now to help me along my way and to show your support of this very worthy cause.
Many, many thanks and kindest regards,
George
