Story
Hi guys,
We're giving up drinking alcohol for January. Whilst this will hopefully give us back our Saturday mornings back for 4 weeks of the year (as opposed to being cripplingly hungover), We are also using this as an opportunity to raise money for Transform, donating any money I would have spent on alcohol (usually a minimum of £10 a week).
Transform are a great charity which campaign for changes in the law surrounding drug policy. Since the early 20th century, countries around the world have been criminalizing substances such as heroin and cocaine which were previously sold at most pharmacists without prescription. And since then, some of the most vulnerable people, people with addictions because using drugs is the only way to cope with previous psychological trauma, are being treated as criminals rather than as people in need of love and care. If you want to know more about the war on drugs and its failings I would recommend reading 'Chasing the Screams' by Johann Hari or watching the following YouTube video by Kurzgesagt which is inspired by the book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao8L-0nSYzg
Transform's latest campaign is to raise money so that 20 families from different regions from around the world can attend a UN summit which will discuss global drug policy. This will allow those who have been personally affected by the war on drugs to be given a voice! You can find out more by watching Transform's YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEmfXIk_c2c&feature=youtu.be) or on their website (www.tdpf.org.uk).
Peace, love and thanks for the support.
George, Jac and Emily
