We fund research into eye diseases to find new treatments and therapies

Story

Hi everyone,

In April we are running the Southampton Half Marathon for Gift of Sight, a local charity raising money to help fund research into the prevention and treatment of blindness. Not only do they fund research into the causes of the disease but also help to fund clinical trials in order to give direct patient benefit.

Examples of recent research funded by Gift of Sight includes a study into the genetic cause of Age-related Macular Degeneration which identified 34 genes which are risk-factors for the disease, and also they are helping to fund a phase-3 clinical trial for the use of lampalizumab to slow the progression of dry Age-related Macular Degeneration.

We will be running dressed as giant eye-balls in order to raise awareness and money for a charity we believe to be critical in directly funding life-changing research into diseases such as Macular Degeneration, Nystagmus and Glaucoma.

Further information on the charity can be found on their website: http://www.giftofsight.org.uk/
