We care for sick and premature babies to give every baby the best chance of life

Story

Thanks for visiting the page.

Our twins, Cameron and Leela, were born 15 weeks early on 7th May 2011 at only 1lb 9oz each.  They needed a lot of medical input, including two big operations for Cameron, but showed resilience which belied their tiny size and we are so proud to be celebrating their first birthday.  We know we can never repay the SCBU for what they have given to us, nor will we ever hope to match the bravery and strength of Cameron and Leela but the Gunthorpe C2C is an attempt to start saying thank you.  We plan to cycle the famous Coast to Coast route, 140 miles from from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.

Newcastle Special Care Baby Unit helps a huge number of babies who get a tough start in life.  When I decided I would do the c2c, 10 of my fantastic mates (and my little sis) said they would come along too.  Three of us have had little ones who were looked after in Newcastle SCBU and one of us has had a little one cared for on the SCBU in York. Rosa, Maya, Finn, Olivia, Cameron and Leela are around today because of these units

The list of bikers accepting the challenge are

David "Winnie" Hamilton

Alistair "Hobo" Irwin

Mark "Dentist" Chrimes

Hugh "Shugs" Orr

Eddie "Louty" Williams

Mark "Dr Dr" Brady

Matthew "Dewi" Dewhurst

Leo "Gurno" Gurney

Adam "Stavros" McDiarmid

Richard "Barlick" Cusworth

Simon "Simi" Walters

Ollie "Barry Sheen" Hutchinson

Susie "Susiboo" Hamilton (vehicle support)

Cyrus "Birro" Jenson (moral support)

Whilst on the unit, it was clear that the money donated through this charity turned Newcastle SCBU from a good unit into an excellent one.  Tiny Lives fund not only research and staff training, but also help to pay for expensive pieces of equipment, provide funding for specialist staff (e.g. physiotherapists) and give parental support for things such as travel

We would be very grateful if you could donate all you can.  Not only will it mean more money for this great charity, but there is a prize for the cyclist who raises the most.... so put in somewhere who you are supporting and it will go towards their total!  Thank you!
