Story
Happy Bricks became an officially registered charity in February 2015, nearly 2 years after a small act of kindness by a then 8-year-old-boy, who gave away his birthday presents in favour of raising money for bicycles, to donate to children living in a remote village in Tanzania.
The bicycles were crucial in allowing a small number of children to travel to their nearest school, which involved a 15km round-trip without food or water - something that prevented so many children from being afforded a decent education.
The boy's generosity led to the family travelling to the village of Lukwambe, 3 hours outside of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, to personally deliver the bikes and meet the children whose lives they were about to change. Little did they know about the journey they would embark on themselves.
The delivery of the bikes during that visit enabled the family to see, first hand, something they had not seen before and it was then that the decision was
made to path the way for the inception of a new charity - welcome Happy Bricks!
That 8-year-old boy is the son of two of the Trustees, and the set-up of a charity is something that had been a pipe dream for one of the Trustees for many years. Although that dream had never come to fruition, having now experienced the difference that such a small act could make and the ease at which it had been achieved, the seemingly impossible was suddenly something much more attainable.
Happy Bricks is a small non-profit charitable organisation, focusing on the lives of disadvantaged children across the globe, raising money to fundamentally improve the quality of the environment they live in. Happy Bricks firmly believes in the development of creative surroundings that are fit for purpose and promote a nurturing, supportive, loving and educational environment which, in turn, increases happiness.
That happiness can be found through Happy Bricks’ work, which can and will range from school builds in Africa, brightly painted and full of desperately needed school materials, to a 48hr makeover of a UK youth centre; from supplying libraries with books and bringing the characters to life on the walls, to changing the way people view orphanages by bringing them into the 21st century, injecting them with life, love and creativity.Happy Bricks is fully committed to building happiness, brightening the everyday, and supporting all children who live a far less fortunate life. How? One brick at a time!
