Story
This is a special appeal in memory of Simon Wallis who took his life on 19 June 2014 at the age of 51 after a roller-coaster struggle with depression.
Simon's family and friends have set up the Happy Days Appeal (adopting Simon's 'Happy Days' sign off) which has the following THREE AIMS:
AIM ONE - To encourage people of all ages to talk more openly about their depression;
AIM TWO - To be a catalyst for improving the support given to people who seek help for their depression; and
AIM THREE - To raise money for Warrington-based registered charity PAPYRUS (Prevention of Young Suicide) which operates a national confidential helpline HOPELineUK (088 068 41 41) for young people and those worried about a young person, as well as promoting positive mental health and emotional well-being in those aged 35 or under. All funds raised by the Appeal go directly to PAPYRUS via this Just Giving page.
2015 was a busy year with formal launch of the Appeal at Caldy Golf Club on 30 January. This was followed by our Hilbre Walk on 16 May involving over 220 walkers. Our Friendship Golf Day at Caldy Golf Club took place on 16 July (Simon's birthday) and on 3 October the Neston Players held a Power Ballads evening. Julie and Vince Jubb took part in the 2015 Snowdonia Marathon on 24 October and many others organised their own events and kindly donated the funds raised.
2016 kicked off with the Happy Days Appeal Music Festival on Friday 1 July at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool - a unique concert starring The Sons of Pitches (winners of Gareth Malone's BBC Naked Choir competition) and singer-songwriter Jimmy Rae & The Moonshine Girls which raised over £5,500. Hot on its heels was our second Friendship Golf Day at Caldy Golf Club on Thursday 28 July which raised over £1,000.
Simon’s love lives on. His family and friends would like to thank everyone who has contributed so generously to the Happy Days Appeal. To support our aims, why not make Happy Days Appeal one of your chosen fundraising causes in 2016 and help to save young lives.
